GPA NORTHAMPTON LAUNCHES UNIQUE VOLUNTEER PASSPORT TO

REDUCE SOCIAL ISOLATION IN OUR COMMUNITIES

This integrated cloud platform is a central location for community individuals wishing
to help by volunteering their time to those most in need, but also uniquely for the
incredible lifesaving organisations and charities to find and recruit these essential
volunteers they depend on to help make the difference in Northamptonshire.

Daniel Kane CEO General Practice Alliance
“This joined up approach will help to significantly reduce social isolation, improve the
mental wellbeing of the frail/elderly and lonely/isolated people living across the county
of Northamptonshire off the back of Covid-19 shielding and lockdown.
The Volunteer Passport will enable volunteers to achieve a nationally recognised
volunteer qualification and create a profile that can be used across multiple service
providers.
The Volunteer Passport will enable Health and Social Care providers to obtain free
DBS checks for their volunteers, have access to online resources and recruit trained
volunteers.
Covid-19 has forced a change in the way we approach our patient care. General
Practice Alliance believes that as we near the end of the pandemic this is the right time
to introduce a new initiative that better respond to the needs of the local community.”

Main Benefits
The free online Volunteer Passport platform will enhance the service experience for
volunteers and Service Providers across Northamptonshire by:
• Providing vital support for older residents through befriending roles
• Training and accrediting local community volunteers by gaining their National
Volunteer Certificate through Health Education England
• Maintaining a central database of accredited volunteer for multiple Service
Providers to access across Northamptonshire

Mary Wetherly – Pilot Volunteer
“I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to participate in the pilot of The Volunteer
Passport and to take part in a wide range of e-learning training courses developing my
knowledge, skills and abilities which will not only enhance the care and support that I
provide in my volunteering role but also in my everyday life.
The Volunteer Passport is a fabulous platform offering both volunteers and Service
Providers a ‘one stop’ location where volunteers can upload their certificates once they
have completed the mandatory training and other required documentation forming a
‘Passport’, making the process of volunteering so much quicker and easier going
forward.
Service Providers list available roles with detailed information allowing the volunteer
to make informed decisions, apply for roles, book volunteering sessions, log off when
they have finished their session and give feedback.
