Northampton’s Youth Forum are inviting local young people to a free event in Becket’s Park on Saturday, 11 August, in celebration of International Youth Day.

A range of information and advice, entertainment and activities will be available throughout the day, as the Youth Forum promote this year’s theme of ‘Safe spaces for youth’.

The day, which will take place between 11am and 4pm, will give attendees the chance to get involved in a range of activities including circus skills workshop, shoe and clothing customisation sessions and street sports throughout the day. In addition, a giant 360 dome will be set up in the park offering virtual reality experiences, robotics and dance mats.

Inspiration FM will be providing music throughout the day, with performances from Open Stage between 12pm and 1.30pm, and local singers at 2pm and 3pm.

Local organisations such as The Lowdown, Aquarius, Free 2 Talk, Prospects, Trilogy, Voice for young people and iDID will also be on hand to provide information and advice about education, careers, health, drugs and alcohol and personal safety.

Councillor Anna King, Cabinet member for community engagement and safety, said: “Following the success of our first International Youth Day event last year, we are pleased to bring this spectacular event to Becket’s Park.

“This year we have focused on working with partners to provide a safe space for our local young people to come together and engage in a range of activities related to their diverse needs and interests. And we encourage everyone to come along and take part in the day.”
