Donate a gift for a patient on Christmas Day
Christmas in hospital is going to be even more lonely this year with COVID restrictions in place. You can help Northamptonshire Health Charity make a difference and bring a smile to patients by donating to the Christmas Gifts appeal, helping to ensure every patient receives a gift on Christmas day.
Northamptonshire Health Charity supports your local hospitals, including Northampton General and all the community and mental health hospitals in the county (Berrywood, Isebrook, Corby, St Mary’s). There are many patients, mostly elderly, that have nobody, which means no visitors and no gift on Christmas day. This year, with the pandemic affecting us all it still isn’t known when visitors will be allowed back into hospitals so receiving a present on the day will make even more of a difference to every single patient.
Last year, every inpatient received a gift bag containing items, which helped bring a smile to their face and remind them people are thinking about them. Lorna Boswell from Allebone (Stroke) Ward at NGH said “…the patients were delighted with their gifts. One relative commented ‘this is overwhelming’!” Every year, the charity team are blown away by the generosity and kindness shown by the local community in helping to achieve this goal.
Suitable items you can donate include, puzzle books, slippers and socks, toiletries, lip balms and dominoes for elderly patients; and toys, games and activities for the children’s wards and for the short break centres in the county. For infection control purposes only items that are new and in the original packaging can be accepted, preferably not gift wrapped, so they can be allocated appropriately.
It is appreciated that Christmas shopping will be affected by COVID19 so shopping locally where possible is always good but if you would prefer to shop online, there is an Amazon Wish List https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/31PEFL8LFNRT3. You can purchase an item from the list and it will be delivered directly to the charity office. Alternatively, you can make a monetary donation and a gift will be purchased for you.
Your support really does make a difference, as Trish Ribano, Service Manager at Welland Centre for Adult Mental Health says, “We are so grateful for your support at Christmas, it makes our day when all the gifts arrive for us to give out as it is so lovely to see the patient’s faces on Christmas day as this can be a very lonely and difficult time.”
With your help let’s make sure that no one is forgotten at what will be a very different and difficult Christmas for everyone.
If you’d like to take part in the appeal you can donate items by dropping them in at the charity office at Springfield, Cliftonville, Northampton, NN1 5BE, Monday to Friday 9-4PM; donate through the Amazon Wishlist; or make a monetary donation. The charity offices are situated a short walk from A&E at the hospital, next door to the Urgent Treatment Centre and items need to be in by Friday 18th December.
