This special concert features the County Youth Concert Band, County Youth Choir with former members, County Youth Brass Band with former principals, NMPAT 50 Alumni Big Band and NMPAT 50 Gala Concert Orchestra. Celebrations will continue beyond the concert stage, and there will be opportunities for reunions and reminiscence in Derngate’s foyers. The bars remain open after the concert and there will be food available. We will only be 50 once!
On Sunday 7th July, we will continue our weekend of celebrations, presenting our annual end of year showcase for our junior and training county ensembles – the New and Second Generation concerts, at Derngate, at 2pm and 7.30pm respectively.
Still known locally, by many, as Northampton Music School and formerly a Local Authority Music Service, NMPAT became an independent charitable trust in 2011. Now, as lead partner of the Northamptonshire Music Education Hub, NMPAT continues to deliver the promises of the Government’s National Plan for Music Education and strives to provide access to music education for all children and young people of Northamptonshire.
Last year, NMPAT enabled over 20,000 children to engage in playing a musical instrument; nearly every primary school hosted a First Access project, with every child in a year group having opportunities to play a musical instrument or have tuition. There are currently over 1,000 members of auditioned county music groups, traveling from across the county and rehearsing weekly at the Kettering Road Music and Arts Centre, and our senior music groups are regarded nationally and are among the most successful in the country.
Currently NMPAT maintains over 30 county ensembles – orchestras’, brass, wind and jazz bands, choirs, chamber ensembles, world music groups and a Young Actors company; 13 Saturday morning music centres with an open access policy to enable any student to gain first experiences: Rock School enable students to form bands and perform in contemporary genres; and the Trust maintains educational contact with nearly every state school in the county and many of the private establishments, tertiary colleges and early years centres.
The NMPAT 50 Anniversary weekend is a celebration for all our NMPAT family, past, present and future…
