Pride Northampton has opened applications for its 2020 event, encouraging performers, food vendors, stallholders, volunteers and community groups to support the town’s Pride event on Saturday, 18 July.
Taking place between 12.30pm and 6pm, the event is organised by Northampton’s LGBTQ and Allies Forum and the Northampton Pride Committee, and aims to highlight the LGBTQ community, businesses and support organisations.
Previous celebrations have seen organisations such as Q Space, The Lowdown, Outlaws and Kinky Boots, Northampton Leisure Trust and Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust taking part by holding pop-up shops.
Attendees had the opportunity to sample products from local businesses and producers as well as enjoy performances from local bands, singers and dancers.
This year, for the first time, a Pride Parade will take place as part of the event. The parade will begin in the Market Square and finish in Becket’s Park, where live performances will be held.
Councillor Anna King, Cabinet member for community engagement and safety, said: “Pride in Northampton is about the people, for the people. Last year was our most diverse and inclusive Pride event yet and we are very excited to introduce the parade this year and showcase the best our community has to offer.
“We already can’t wait to march, dance and laugh through the streets of Northampton on 18 July to mark the importance of equality and diversity of people everywhere.”
Local bands, performers, small businesses and residents who would like the opportunity to take part in this year’s Northampton Pride can register their interest on Northampton Borough Council website https://bit.ly/2ZLvwX4
